    Medical Hypnosis

Is Medical Hypnosis a Valid Treatment for Medical Conditions?

Medical Hypnosis is now being used at some of the most prestigious medical centers including The Mayo Clinic,  Johns Hopkins, and The Cleveland Clinic for the treatment of many medical conditions.

Hypnosis is used by many Olympic athletes and rich and famous people.

In 1958, the American Medical Association (AMA) published a report that indicated that there can be “definite and proper uses of hypnosis in medical and dental practice.”

Research Studies Showing the Effectiveness of Hypnosis

Research studies suggest that hypnosis may be effective for some patients with the following medical conditions:

Allergies, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Arthritis, Asthma, Bone Fracture Healing, Burns, Cancer Pain, Cancer Support, Cancer Survival, Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting, Childbirth, Chronic Pain, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Depression, Dermatitis, Dyspepsia, Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Hemophilia, Headaches, Hypertension, Impotence, Infertility, Insomnia, Incontinence, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Migraine Headaches, Multiple Sclerosis, Pain from dental procedures, Neuropathic Pain, Peptic Ulcer Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Smoking Cessation, as the Soul Anesthesia for major Surgery, Surgical Recovery, Tinnitus, Weight Loss for Obesity and many other conditions as you can see in the published studies by clicking here.

    What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state of selective, focused attention. It is very similar to the state one is in when watching a movie or in that “timeless type of state” when being with a loved one.

This state helps us access our unconscious mind to develop greater abilities to make changes in our thoughts, feelings, emotions, and behaviors and to regain control of our unwanted “automatic” behaviors and emotions.

As you know, these factors can be very difficult to change using willpower alone.

Unfortunately, some myths about hypnosis still exist.

     Ten Myths About Medical Hypnosis:

Myth #1: The Hypnotist will be able to control my mind.

Fact: No one can control your mind unless you let them. Medical hypnosis is a way to regain more powerful control of your mind in a way that is safe and effective for many health conditions. If you hear a suggestion that you don’t agree with or don’t understand, your unconscious mind will automatically reject it, or just laugh at it.

Myth #2: I will be made to perform embarrassing acts, such as bark like a dog, or quack like a duck.

Fact: This assumption is based on Stage Hypnotism fiction. Stage hypnotists screen their volunteers to select those who are cooperative, with possible exhibitionist tendencies, as well as responsive to hypnosis. These selected subjects allow themselves to participate in acting out silly suggestions. Stage acts have created a myth about hypnosis that discourages people from seeking legitimate hypnosis. Hypnosis is a process of self-improvement, not entertainment, although you may find during your LaughGnosis session that you are the most entertaining actor of all!

Myth #3: Hypnosis comes from “Black Magic” or is “Supernatural.”

Fact: Hypnosis is a natural state that has been studied scientifically and validated. Hypnotists are not psychics or palm readers with “special powers.” Hypnosis is based on many years of clinical research by famous psychologists such as Dr. Sigmund Freud, Dr. Carl Jung, and Dr. Milton Erikson.

Myth #4: Hypnosis is a “Miracle Cure.”

Fact: While Hypnosis is a relatively quick method of making natural and permanent changes, there is no guarantee of a one-time miracle cure. Everyone makes progress at their own rate. The more you incorporate the principles of this book, the faster your progress will be.

Myth #5: I have never been in Hypnosis before.

Fact: Everyone naturally enters a state of hypnosis at least twice every day: just before falling asleep at night, and upon awaking every morning, before getting out of bed. Most people easily enter “Environmental Hypnosis” states while watching TV, driving on the highway, or reading a good book.

Myth #6: Hypnosis is a great tool to get someone to “confess.”

Fact: Hypnosis sessions are kept private and confidential. It cannot force anyone to “tell the truth” or to confess.

Myth #7: Self-Hypnosis is safer, better, or more effective than going to a trained professional.

Fact: Self-Hypnosis can be detrimental when not done by a trained professional. A negative attitude or belief about oneself can be reinforced regardless of suggestions given and can cause more problems in the long run.

Myth #8: I can’t be hypnotized because my mind is too strong.

Fact: The opposite is most often the case. A person with a strong mind can use this strength to allow the hypnosis to work more effectively and will get more out of each session. The stronger their will to change, the more effective the session will be when properly aligned with their higher purpose and the Will of God (which will be discussed before the session).

Myth #9: When hypnotized, I will lose all sense of my surroundings, and will have no memory of the session.

Fact: Hypnosis is not an unconscious state of sleep. In fact, most people report having a heightened sense of awareness, concentration, and focus. Hypnosis can give you a much higher perspective of reality that may be considered one step closer to God’s perspective. Laughter can help this process.

Myth #10: Hypnosis is Dangerous. If I become Hypnotized, I may not be able to “snap out of it.”

Fact: Hypnosis is very safe and is, in fact, a state of hyper-awareness. Any time there is an emergency, a person would naturally be able to come out of hypnosis by merely opening their eyes and stretching or speaking.

The Affect of Emotions on Disease

Research in PsychoEndoNeuroImmunology shows the emotional centers in our brain are connected with the immune system and hormonal system of the body. This means that whenever we have an emotional response, our body is affected in a way that can cause medical diseases as you can see here.

In addition, functional MRI studies show us that every time we have a thought or emotion, different areas of our brain are flooded with an electrical current that stimulates the release of neurochemicals.

This means that the neurochemicals produced by stress, anxiety, fear, worry, anger, grief, sadness, shame, etc. can affect our body in negative ways.

If these emotions persist, our brain will rewire itself through a process called neuroplasticity.

Can Medical Hypnosis Help Medical Conditions?

We can reprocess old experiences in a more productive way through Medical Hypnosis. This can help generate new networks of neurons, and rewire our brain to help normalize our body.

Once we reprocess old experiences in a more positive way, we no longer need to experience the results of childhood trauma. This can improve not only our health but our whole outlook on life.

We are all taught that genetics is the cause of many diseases. But according to Epigeneticsts, although we may not be able to change our genetics, we may be able to change how our genes are expressed.

The key to normalizing this process is working with the subconscious part of the mind. This part of the mind helps regulate our neurotransmitters and bodily systems. The subconscious mind is essentially the master communication system within the brain that drives your thoughts, behavior, and life. One way to rewire the mind is through hypnosis.

Medical hypnosis is a mental re-engineering technique that works to normalize the bodily systems. It can help with medical conditions for other reasons that can be seen here.

This can help in the treatment of many diseases as can be seen here.

    Other strategies we use include:

    LaughGnosis

For an in-depth perspective on how laughter can be combined with hypnosis (LaughGnosis) to work along with traditional medicine to help heal medical conditions, please read Dr. Bloom’s book, The HoHoHoliest Medicine, Exploring the Power of Divine Laughter or visit this web site.

Link Between Heart Rate Variability Measurement With Hypnosis

During your session, we can monitor your heart rate variability to help guide your treatment. We do this because:

    In Summary

Our health is influenced by our emotions, Our emotions are, in turn, controlled by our subconscious thoughts and beliefs. So a key to help restore health is by working with the subconscious mind.

Hypnosis is a type of mental reengineering.
